Sciatica Relief in Irvine
Sciatic pain refers to pain that originates in the low back or hips and radiates down the legs and even on into the feet. At Pirmann Family Chiropractic, we take the time to explain what’s going on with your sciatic pain, so you can understand the causes and how our care may help.
Causes of Sciatica
The sciatic nerve is comprised of all five lumbar nerves. These nerves run down the back and branch out into the glutes, where they form one common nerve called the sciatic nerve. This large nerve is about the size of your pinky.
In about 30 percent of the population, this nerve runs straight through the piriformis muscle. So when that muscle is tight for any reason, it puts pressure on the sciatic nerve. Since that nerve feeds all the muscles of the leg (hamstrings, quads, calf and foot muscles), any pressure on it can lead to sciatica symptoms anywhere along the leg. This is one cause of sciatica.
If any of the five lumbar nerves are compromised before they join the glute, the result can be pain anywhere along the length of that nerve. This is the other cause of sciatica.
Whether sciatic pain originates in the hip or the low back, it can be debilitating.
Our 2-Pronged Approach to Care
Dr. Joel Pirmann has over twenty years’ experience in identifying and correcting the underlying cause of sciatic pain. Our approach combines massage therapy with chiropractic adjustments to provide the best results possible.
Our thorough examination will help Dr. Pirmann identify the underlying cause of your particular sciatic pain. The chiropractic adjustment restores motion to the joint, alleviating muscle guarding and pressure on the nerves. The therapeutic massage addresses the muscle component of the issue further, to allow the muscles to fully relax and stop constricting the nerves.
